The first container restaurant in Detroit is still open after six years

Nowadays, restaurants that are made from shipping containers are popping up all over the place. But this new trend wasn’t the norm in 2016 when a popular eatery in Detroit opened for business and is still going strong today.

Detroit’s first shipping container restaurant and bar, called The Fountain, opened in Campus Martius Park in 2016. This 40-foot-long soothing blue colored steel shipping container restaurant is constructed from a 40-foot-long container with minimal modifications including shelving, exhaust system, and little more. Just enough to get the business going with limited start up funds.

The container sits atop of a wood deck adorned with colorful umbrellas and a seating area consisting of tables for any size party i.e., four tops, picnic seating, high tops and more.

The dining area is bathed in natural light and features planters with blossoming flowers, which keep the area welcoming and lively.

Their food is ideal for a casual seaside atmosphere, with options such as sausages, sandwiches, salads, chicken wings, and more. Check out their menu here.

Today, shipping containers are being used for restaurants, such as this one, and a number of other businesses. In Detroit, you can find shipping container gyms, condominiums, urban farms, and more. The Fountain is one of the best examples demonstrating that containers are durable, versatile, and suitable for a wide range of operations.
