In 2000, celebrity chef Tim Love made a bold move when he opened his first restaurant concept – Lonesome Dove Western Bistro in Fort Worth’s Historic Stockyards. This was before he took part in the popular Iron Chef show and became the host of CNBC’s Restaurant Startup. His vision for success was clear from the start as he sought to expand his culinary business.
Love’s empire continues to expand with new and inspiring concepts, currently encompassing more than 14 venues in Fort Worth, Denton, and Knoxville. Among these is Ático – a Spanish tapas concept at Mule Alley- and Elephant Saloon found in the Stockyards district. The most recently added was A micro resort called Hotel Otto situated alongside the river and featuring rooms made of shipping containers.
Hotel Otto, inspired by its namesake in Italian meaning “eight,” was established with eight unique shipping container resort rooms. In July 2021, the property opened to rave reviews and features an Aperol bar open to all restaurant patrons as well as a pool made from a shipping container and a 10,000-square-foot garden where many of Gemelle’s ingredients are locally sourced for their culinary delights and cocktails.
An extraordinary sight greets one at the corner of Peavy Rd. and Buckner Blvd, across from a small park that overlooks White Rock Lake. There is an innovative house made entirely out of shipping containers. It’s unmistakable that this bold structure stands out among its neighbors in the area.
Led by architects Matt Mooney and Michael Gooden, the groundbreaking for the innovative “PV14” house began in March 2013. The name of this creative work was derived from 422 Peavy Rd., where it stands and the 14 shipping containers used to build the structure.
The main level of the home has been decidedly designed for entertaining, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a gorgeous pool and including plenty of room for an entertainment center, fireplace, as well as a mini kitchen. Although this area is certainly impressive in its own right, it’s the second and third floors that really take one’s breath away!

In 2017, Ron Sturgeon’s revolutionary Box Office project in North Fort Worth was constructed. A multi-use business suite created from more than 100 containers and 40 suites of different sizes.
Starting at just $875 per month for 320 square feet, this unique office development has provided countless entrepreneurs with the opportunity to make their dreams come true.
Sturgeon’s innovative endeavor follows another container-based office project called Connex, found near downtown Fort Worth. Leveraging the power of upcycled conex boxes, this initiative is sure to bring new opportunities to the area.
